Barry D. Koons, Passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Friday, November 25th, 2022 at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents George Koons, Walter Hughes, and Kathleen Hughes. He is survived by his children Bonnie Koons, Jim Koons, and Jason Koons, and Jason's wife Michele Koons. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren Andrew, Christina, Erika, Tyler, Jayson, and Trey along with his 4 great-grandchildren Aubree, Landon, Skylar, and Malaya. Also, surviving are his siblings, brother Glenn Koons, sister Sandy Hughes, brother Terry Hughes and brother Jeff Hughes. He was a huge dirt track racing fan who supported many local tracks over the years. On any given Friday or Saturday night he could be found at Williams Grove, Silver Springs, Lincoln, or Port Royals Speedways. Most recently he enjoyed going to Grandview Speedway to watch the mighty modifieds rumble. The one track that seemed to be his favorite was the former Penn National Speedway in Grantville, Pa. From 1980, until the track closed in 1997, he was there every Sunday night with family supporting the track. He also enjoyed watching sports on tv or attending the event in person. He was a huge fan of the Hershey Bears, Philadelphia Flyers, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Philadelphia Eagles. He liked many genres of music, such as Buddy Holly, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Aerosmith, The Proclaimers, and The Stereo MC’s song from the 90s, “Connected”. He was an avid dessert or sweets person but most of all a HUGE ice cream fan. No matter how full he was from a meal, he always found room for ice cream, which is why we chose this obituary picture for him.He touched many lives over the past 78 years and will be dearly missed by all of his friends and family.Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
