Charles F. Long, age 89, of Lebanon, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Friday, November 29, 2019.
Born December 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Charley and Minnie(Wolfe) Long. He was preceded in death by 11 of his 12 siblings, his son Charles Jr., his daughter Cheryl, his first wife Dolores in 1984 and his second wife Iris in 2005. He retired from Quaker Alloy Steel Company, Myerstown with 33 years of service in 1989. Charles last worked at the VA Hospital, Lebanon. Prior to entering the U.S. Army, Charles worked at the North Lebanon Shoe Factory. He was an avid small game hunter and fisherman. He completed US Army training in 1951 at Ft Knox, Kentucky and was assigned to Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 70th Heavy Tank Battalion. Charles deployed to Korea and Japan and received the Korea Service Medal with service stars for Second Korean Winter and Korean Defense Summer Fall 1952 campaigns. He also received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) for military duty in 1952.
He is survived by four sons; Terry of Lebanon, Dale and his wife Vicki of Powhatan,VA, Daniel and his wife Julie of Harrisburg, John and his wife Brenda previously of Lebanon; two daughters; Deborah and her husband Dean of Tower City, Rebecca and her husband Barry of Mount Wolf; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 AM Thursday, December 5, 2019 at East Shore Baptist Church, 6721 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg with Pastor John Toone officiating. Viewing will be 10:30-11:30AM.
Burial with military honors will be at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
Christman’s Funeral Home, Inc. 226 Cumberland Street, Lebanon, is in charge of arrangements.
