Doris R. Harpold was ushered into heaven and the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Friday, November 22, 2013. To be separated from the body is to be present with the Lord. Born on Wednesday, September 18, 1940 in Frederick, Maryland, Doris was the daughter of the late Earl J. and Edna V. Rice. Doris married John A. (Jack) Harpold on Saturday, June 4, 1960. Three sons were born into the family and later four foster sons joined the family through COBYS foster care services. Doris graduated from Frederick High School class of 1958 and worked for the Potomac Edison Electric Company until starting a family. Later she worked at B. F. Goodrich Tire Store and in the Dr. Jerry McGreevy Dental Practice in Frederick and Moore Business Forms in Thurmont, Md. After moving to Pennsylvania she worked several years for Carlos R. Leffler Co., retiring in 2005.Doris loved to work in the church. She sang in the choir, coordinated youth ministries, taught children in Sunday School and Bible study, worked with Release Time Religious Education, participated in Women’s Fellowship and anything else she was called on to do. Doris touched many lives through her faith, love and service. Doris is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jack Harpold, three sons, Arthur (Pandora) of Frederick, Md, Wesley (Sherri) and Curtis and four granddaughters, Ellen, Kaitlyn, Emily, and Andria all of Lebanon, Pa. Four foster sons also survive, Michael Nissley (Malinda), Terry Gingrich (Cheryl), Tam Nguyen, and Brian Ream. There are nine foster grandchildren, four foster great-grandchildren, six step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Grace Custer (Charles), Mary Nicodemus (Leonard) and one brother, Jerry Rice (Helen) and sister-in-law, Patty Rice all of Frederick, Md. Doris was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Ronald Rice of Frederick, Md. Services will be held for Doris on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29-30, with viewing on Friday 6-9 PM and Saturday 10 AM with the Memorial service at 11 AM with interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Services will be held at the Midway Church of the Brethren, 13 Evergreen Road, Lebanon, PA 17042. Memorial contributions may be made to the Midway Church to support its ministries.
