April 4, 1917 — February 9, 2011

Esther Spangler Hoke, aged 93, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2011 in Richmond Hill, GA, under hospice care. She was the widow of Joseph "Ted" Hoke and is survived by her son Joseph T. Hoke, Jr. and daughter-in-law Donna J. Hoke of Richmond Hill, GA; grandchildren Allison (Shawn) Alexander of Silver Spring, MD; Aimee (CJ) Davis of Wake Forest, NC; and Andrew Hoke of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren Anthony and Caden Alexander; sister Pauline Roller of Sterling, VA; brother-in-law Robert Deitzler of Lebanon, PA; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Esther is best remembered for her appreciation of all "homemade." Her artistic creativity can be seen in her sewing ability which included clothing, draperies, upholstery and quilting. She also was quite accomplished as a craftswoman in basket weaving, chair caning, bargello, painting, wallpapering and furniture refinishing. Esther shared these talents with her family and friends. Esther was a very active individual who enjoyed "doing stuff" and hearing about the travels of her family.

She lived most of her life in Lebanon County, PA, except for the last 5 years spent in Richmond Hill, GA and during WWII when she worked for the War Department in Elmira, NY and New York City. She was retired from Haak Bros. Dept. store in Lebanon. Esther was a 1935 graduate of Lebanon High School, and until her relocation to GA, actively participated in the reunion committee. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark''s United Church of Christ in Lebanon, bur during her years living in Georgia attended Richmond Hill United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Sunday, February 13, 2011 at St. Mark''s UCC in Lebanon, with the family receiving friends during the hour preceding the service. Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances to St. Mark''s UCC, 8the & Mifflin Streets, Lebanon, PA 17046.
