Fern B. Smith

Fern B. Smith, 97, of Lebanon, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at Spang Crest Manor. She was born on Wednesday, September 9, 1925 to the late Howard J. Copenhaver and Florence E. Copenhaver nee Root in Heidelberg Township, Pennsylvania. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and an active member of the River of Life Church in Lebanon. Fern enjoyed her younger years traveling through Europe visiting Italy, Germany and Austria with her life-long best friend Kathy. She also spent 30 years organizing monthly dinners and get-together events for her close circle of friends to enjoy. Before her retirement, Fern worked as a Supervisor at the Veterans Medical Center in the food service department. Surviving are daughters Lori A. Hainly (Elwood), Donna K. Houser (William); Four Grandchildren; Three Great Grandchildren; One Great-Great Grandchild; Brother Dennis Cophenhaver (Gloria); as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended church family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert D. Smith; daughters Sharon Jack and Sandra J. Copenhaver; Siblings Owen Copenhaver, Perry Copenhaver, June Wolfe, Carolyn Hartranft, Franklin Copenhaver, and Verna Maine. Evening visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland Street, Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at the River of Life Church, 825 N. 7th Street, Lebanon, Pennsylvania 17046. Viewing will begin at 10:00am followed by the service at 11:00am. Burial will take place at Heidelberg Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Schaefferstown, following the service.
