Gladys Merkey

April 22, 1910 — April 8, 2011

Gladys V. Merkey, age 100, entered into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ on April 8, 2011 at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster.

She was born near Harrisonburg, VA on April 22, 1910, the daughter of the late Lewis D. Wampler and Grace Cox Wampler. She was the widow of Re. Ammon L. Merkey who died in 1982 and she lived for most of her life in Mt. Zion, Lebanon County. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, especially quilting, ministering to her family and friends and was an avid letter writer.

She is survived by her daughter Marianna, wife of Luke Newswanger, Lancaster; grandchildren Arlene Kobulnicky, VA, Lee Newswanger, Lynn Newswanger, James Newswanger, all of Indiana, Amy Newswanger, Maryland; eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; sisters Lena Hertzog, Myerstown, Lera Krammes, Lebanon, Minnie wife of Mark Summers, Griffin, GA; brother Marvin Wampler husband of Kitty, Lebanon; sister-in-law Almeda Merkey, Myerstown. She was predeceased, including her husband, by a son A. Lester Merkey, Jr. and infant daughter Martha Ellen; brothers Paul, Mark and Leonard Wampler; sisters Sylvia, Connie and Carrie Wampler; two great grandchildren.

An evening viewing will be on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 7-9 PM at Christman''s Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland Street, Lebanon.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Mt. Zion Road Church of the Brethren, 2087 Mt. Zion Road, Lebanon, with a viewing at 9:00AM.

Burial will be at Wolf''s Union Meeting House Cemetery, Lebanon, following the service.
