James J. Schock, 87, long-time owner-operator of Freeport Mills Golf Course, passed away at home Thursday evening, May 1, 2014, after a brief illness.
Born November 10, 1926, on a Locust Valley farm in Ryan Township, Schuylkill County, he was the son of James A. and Estella (Blew) Schock.  He graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1944, immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he trained as an aviation machinist mate, and naval aviation cadet.  He received an honorable discharge in 1946.  He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy from Penn State in 1952.He married Dorothy Balulis in 1950.  They moved to Lebanon County in 1952, where he was employed by Central Chemical (Lebanon Seaboard), working in the plant and then as a salesman.  He became a manufacturer?s representative for multiple corporations beginning in 1960, then continued in that occupation until 1979.  In 1967, he and his wife purchased Freeport Mills Golf Course.  In 1980, he entered real estate.  After working for Krall Real Estate, he went on his own in 1987 (Freeport Mills Real Estate).  He retired from real estate in 2007, but continued to operate Freeport Mills Golf Course.James served his community as a member of the North Lebanon Lions Club, as North Lebanon Township auditor, as a member of the authority that oversaw construction of Cedar Crest High School, and
as a building committee member of Salem Lutheran Church where he attended over 60 years.
Sons James Edward, and Edward James of Lebanon, and daughter Christine Barzensky and her husband John, and their daughter Jacquelyn of Port Carbon, survive James.  Grandchildren, Jonathon and wife Rikki, and their children Ava and Liam, of Dunmore, and Catrina Garcia, and husband Juan, and their children Christopher, Isabel, and Abigail, of West Lawn, also survive him.He is preceded in death by siblings Granville Mathias Schock, Lorraine Angelina Jacquet, Joseph Abraham Schock, Eleanor Estella Habel.  His wife Dorothy passed away in 2006.  A son, Richard, passed away in infancy.
Viewing will be on Thursday, May 08, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland Street, Lebanon.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 08, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors, following the service.
