John Bruner, Jr

John L. Bruner, Jr., 88, of 201 Lebanon, died on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at his home.

He was born on Monday, August 13, 1923 to the late John L. Bruner, Sr. and Katherine Bruner nee Cuddy in Harrisburg. He was a veteran of the Army in World War II. He enlisted PA National Guard on 3/16/1941 and was discharged "ERC" 3/06/1943. He was in Okinawa from 1/11/1949 - 4/1/1949 in Unit 779th Anti Aircraft 104th Cav of PA National Guard. John was a lifetime member of VFW Post #23, American Legion Post 910 and AMVETS Post 136. He was involved with the Civil War Preservation Trust, National Rifle Association, Amateur Radio Operator K3KEK and completed exam for morse code. John was in Civil Air Patrol as a Lt. Colonel having served in many capacities on Squadron, Group and Wing Level and was a member of the Counter Drug Program. He received Meritorious Service Awards and Commanders Commendation Awards having served 50 years with CAP. John enjoyed National Railroad Museum, served with civil defense activities in Cumberland County and was a deputy sheriff for Cumberland County. He was an avid stamp collector since age 12 and was an original member of the Harrisburg River Rescue and 1st Commander and honored in 1968 for his dedication and devotion to river rescue. He helped organize Harrisburg''s 1st Kipona and helped paint the mural at John Harris High School. John worked at PA Railroad for 18 years, Industrial Controls of Lemoyne as electrical engineer and retired from the Dept. of Military Affairs (Commonwealth of PA) as a construction inspector.

Surviving are wife Roysetta C. Bruner nee Copenhaver, Lebanon; sons John L. III, spouse of Susan Bruner,Mechanicsburg, Thomas Bruner, McDonough, GA, Kirk Bruner, Los Angeles, CA; daughter Diane spouse of James Saulsbury, Falls Church, VA; stepdaughter Elizabeth Siegrist spouse of David Shoemaker, Lebanon; stepson Joseph L. spouse of Deborah Siegrist, FL; grandchildren Michael Bruner, Mechanicsburg, Joseph Siegrist, Harrisburg, James spouse of Andrea Saulsbury; great grandchild Logan Bruner, Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by brothers Richard Bruner and Fred Bruner.

Viewing will be on Friday, September 16, 2011 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Christman''s

Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland Street, Lebanon. Funeral services will be on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, following the service, with full military honors.
