Mary McElroy

Mary Grace Shorter McElroy, 99, of Cornwall, Pa. died April 3, 2013 at Cornwall Manor, a United Methodist retirement community.

She was a loving wife to the late Rev. Dr. John A. McElroy, married to him for 66 years. As a pastor''s wife, she was much loved by the congregations they served. Her loving spirit and sense of humor endeared her to those who knew her. Born, February 6, 1914 in Philadelphia, Pa., Grace was the daughter of Clyde Gardener and Laura Brush Shorter. She was a graduate of Woodbury High School in N.J. and a registered nurse, graduate of the Protestant Episcopal School of Nursing in Philadelphia, specially certified in obstetrical nursing by the Pennsylvania Lying- In Hospital in Philadelphia. She was a wonderful mother to three daughters, grandmother to eight, and greatgrandmother to twelve. She was a caring and compassionate nurse to her patients during her working years. She worked as an obstetrical nurse after raising her children and in later years, as a staff nurse and charge nurse at two nursing homes in New Jersey. She loved the nursing profession. Grace was a fifty year plus member of PEO, a national philanthropic educational organization of women, holding offices in several different chapters.

She is survived by her three daughters: Barbara M. Patterson of Lititz Pa., Ruth M., wife of Curt Fehn, of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Alexandra M., wife of John Bouman, of Pittsford, NY.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11A.M.Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Levi Zerr Chapel of Cornwall Manor, 1 Boyd Street, Cornwall Pa.

Interment will be private at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be sent to the Future Fund for the new Health Center, or Cornwall Manor Benevolent Care Fund, 1 Boyd Street, Cornwall, Pa. 17016.
