Nancy H. Hoke, beloved mother, sister and friend, died peacefully on April 5, 2021 at The Lebanon Valley Home in Annville.
She was 85. Born July 8, 1935 in Freeport, Pa., she was the daughter of the late D. Richard Hill and Madelen Smail Hill. She was the wife of the late Denis W Hoke.
Nancy moved to Lebanon County in 1957 after graduating with a degree in sociology from Penn State University, where she met and married her husband. In addition to raising five children and running a busy household in North Lebanon Township, Nancy worked many years as assistant librarian at Cornwall Elementary School. An active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lebanon, Nancy served on church council and devoted her talents to Christian education, social ministries and stewardship. She was a long-time 4-H leader and active with the League of Women Voters of Lebanon County, Lebanon County Historical Society, Lancaster-Lebanon Habitat for Humanity and organizations addressing issues of domestic violence, hunger and homelessness. An avid bird watcher, she was a member of the Quittapahilla Audubon Society. She loved sports, and was particularly devoted to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football. She often attended Cedar Crest High School girls basketball and closely followed Penn State women's basketball. Nancy will be remembered for her many acts of kindness and quiet generosity.
Surviving are children Kenneth, spouse of Linda, Philadelphia; Kathleen Hoke, Columbus, Oh.; Karl Hoke and Kevin Hoke, Willow Grove, Pa.; Karen Lesser, Bethesda, Md.; grandchildren Alicia Hoke, Jacqueline Lesser and Benjamin Lesser. Also surviving are her brother David Hill of Freeport, Pa; and sister Janet Keslar of Dover, Pa., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Charles Hill and sisters Joanne Loose and Sabra Hill.
Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran church April 21, 2021 at 10am, with Funeral services to follow starting at 11am. Interment will be private at Trinity "Roth's" UCC Cemetery.
