Robert Charles Basselgia, 75, passed peacefully at his home in Lebanon, Pennsylvania and woke up in the presence of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 26, 2016.
Robert was born on January 31, 1941 to the late William Basselgia and Geraldine Weik Basselgia. Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served with distinction as a parachute rigger from 1958 until 1977 when he retired as Chief Petty Officer. Robert's service included time in Japan where his two oldest sons were born as well as serving proudly in Vietnam. His service stateside included time in Meridian, MS; San Diego, CA; Jacksonville, FL; and Oceana, VA. He served proudly on The USS Hornet, The USS Bennington, The USS Hancock, and The USS Roosevelt. He retired from the United States Navy July of 1977 from NAS Oceania. Robert returned to Lebanon, Pennsylvania with his wife and five children and began taking business classes at Lebanon Valley College. After his Navy career he worked for GE for eight years before serving as office manager and estimator at Karcher Machine Works where he retired at the age of 65. After retiring, Robert continued to show his love for those around him while driving school van for IU13 and volunteering his time helping those in need at Lebanon County Christian Ministries. Robert was a member of Faith Baptist Church and had tremendous love for his church family. He was a loving father and husband who always put his family before himself. He will always remain in the hearts of the many who loved him and he will be greatly missed.
Robert was was survived by many who loved him including his wife, Sandra Ruhl Basselgia; his five children, Robert Basselgia II, Mark Basselgia and wife Nancy, Wendy Viramontes, Anthony Basselgia and wife Nicole, and Christopher Basselgia; his eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; his siblings, William Basselgia and wife Alice, Bruce Basselgia, Lynn Basselgia and wife Rose, Nell Kline and husband Glenn, and Sally Seward; and many nieces and nephews and close friends.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 3 at Faith Baptist Church in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
Viewing will be at 10:00 am and service will be at 11:00 am.
