Robert C. Swift, 65, of Lebanon, died December 29, 2010 at MS Hershey Medical Center. After 7 years battling prostate cancer he surrendered to God''s perfect will and He carried him gently and peacefully home. Bob was born January 14, 1945 in Harrisburg, the son of Robert L. Swift and C. Marie Swift. He was a 1962 graduate of John Harris High School and worked for United Telephone/Sprint/Embarq retiring January 2010 with 48 years of service. He was an active member of Zion UM Church of Iona and previously belonged to Heritage UM Church on Overland Park, KS and Wesley UM Church in Mechanicsburg, PA. He sang in the choirs of these churches and also was a member of the Grantham Oratorio Society. He was active in youth baseball coaching in Upper Allen for 10 years then serving as an umpire for 10+ years.
He is survived by his parents, and his wife, Janet of 42 years. He is also survived by two sons and one daughter, Michael and his wife Kimberly of Landisburg, PA, David and his wife Elaine of High Point, NC. Diane Smith and her husband Brad of Reading, PA, his brother Kenneth of Elizabeth City, NC, sister Sandra Bingaman of Elizabethtown, PA, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Zion UM Church of Iona, 1920 S. 5th Avenue, Lebanon at 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion UM Church of Iona, Compassionate Care Hospice (1513 Cedar Cliff Drive, Suite 100, Camp Hill, PA 17011), or Prostate Research (620 West Lexington Street, 2nd floor, Baltimore, MD 21201-1508).
